We know that applying to and starting secondary school can be a worrying time for many pupils and their parents/carers. These pages are designed to support you through the entire transition process from applying to Gladesmore Community School to packing your school bag for your very first day.
There is much that is new to discover about how Year 7 operates and about our school in general. We offer lots of opportunities to come in to the school and become familiar with things before children start in September, including attending our summer school. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact the transition team and we will be in touch.
We asked our current Year 7 and Year 8 what they wish they had known in Year 6, and we have included some of their comments below.
“DON’T STRESS — it’s not as scary as you think it’s going to be!”
“The teachers are all really nice and friendly”.
“I was really scared, but my smiley tutor made me feel safe from Day 1!”
“On my first day, I thought I’d never find my way around. By the end of the week, I was helping other students.”
“I was the only person who came from my primary school to Gladesmore. It was scary at first, but I quickly made friends in my tutor class.”
“For me, one of the best things was Stepping Stones in the mornings. I came in early, ate loads of free croissants and chatted to the Year 10 students.”
“To begin with I found it confusing having so many subjects and so many teachers, but you soon get used to it.”
